QR Menus for Restaurants & Cafés: What They Are and Why You Need One
You’ve definitely seen it: you sit down at a café, there’s a small card on the table with a square code, you scan it with your phone camera and—there it is—the menu on your screen. That is a QR menu, and in 2026 it is no longer a “nice extra” but a core tool for every hospitality business. Let’s look at why.
What is a QR digital menu?
It is your business’s menu as a website, designed specifically for phones. The customer scans the QR code on the table or in the window and immediately sees categories, products, descriptions, photos and prices—without downloading an app. You, in turn, can change a price or add a new dish in just a few minutes, without reprinting anything.
Five practical benefits for your business
1. No more printing costs. Every price change on a printed menu means a new print run—and with prices changing often, that adds up to hundreds of euros a year. The digital menu can be updated instantly at no reprint cost.
2. Photos that sell. Printing photos in a paper menu is expensive. In a digital menu, every dish can have its own photo—and products shown with photos are proven to be ordered more often.
3. Hygiene and speed. No greasy, worn menu passed from hand to hand. Customers can see the menu before the server arrives—the order is placed sooner and tables turn over faster.
4. Multiple languages for tourists. Especially in tourist areas, offering the menu in English (or more languages) at the tap of a button is a major advantage—without printing duplicate menus.
5. Data. See how many people scan, at what times and which products they view most. A paper menu tells you nothing; a digital one shows what your customers are interested in.
A real example: High Hope, Glyfada
For High Hope, a specialty café in Glyfada, we created a complete digital menu with 119 products, photos and custom 3D elements, along with printed QR cards for the tables that also include the venue’s Wi-Fi details. Customers scan once and have everything: menu, Wi-Fi, phone and social media. Prices can be changed in minutes, with no reprinting costs.
How much does a QR menu cost?
A quality digital menu with custom design in your business colours costs around €200–€600 as a one-off in the Greek market, depending on the number of products and features (photos, languages, categories). Compare that with the cost of reprinting a paper menu two or three times a year, and it usually pays for itself within the first few months. For general website costs, see our complete pricing guide.
What to check before having one made
Not all QR menus are the same. Avoid subscription platforms charging €20–€40 every month forever—a custom menu of your own will cost much less over two years. Make sure the menu loads instantly (customers won’t wait), looks excellent on all phones and gives you an easy way to update prices. Most importantly, the menu should be yours—on your own domain, not locked into a third-party platform. Details about the service, prices and examples are on our QR digital menu service page.
